Wintry Water Park
14 Dec - After a couple of pre-Christmas days in York (a lovely historic city with a seasonal Xmas market in the narrow old streets) a quick look at Farmoor and CWP today. Very windy at Farmoor at lunchtime, good views in low sun of 3-400 Fieldfares and Redwings in the berry bushes, 2 Grey Wagtails on the causeway and 200+ Tufted Duck sheltering from the wind on F2. A Drake Goldeneye, but no sign of the Red-necked Grebe.
At CWP, a late afternoon look in dull light drew a blank for Smew at pits 29/30, but the pair found this morning still at Keynes Park prior to dusk - record shots attached - also 5 Goosander (4m,1f) on pit 34, a redhead on pit 44, and good numbers of Red-crested Pochard with 49 on pit 44 and 18 on pit 30.
