Raptors!

1 June - An outstanding morning for raptors......firstly, near Salisbury, Honey Buzzard, Goshawk and Peregrine all seen within an hour or so over some woodland, also Kestrel, Buzzard and Sparrowhawk. Red Kites were seen at several locations driving home, and then on the downs east of Swindon a pair of Montagu's Harriers were over the arable crop fields, with the male displaying.....I just had to then add 6 Hobbies in CWP having already seen 8 raptors in a morning, so totalling 9 species ! In the evening, 3 Turtle Doves calling at Otmoor with one seen well (photo, copyright D.Woodard) but I couldn't add a tenth raptor in the form of a female Marsh Harrier that has been at Otmoot recently. Breeding waders much in evidence, with a drumming Snipe, also Curlew, Redshank and Lapwings.
