Some South Coast waders.......

8 Oct - A refresher course in Southampton gave me the opportunity to call in at Langstone Harbour and Hayling Island, and a good selection of waders seen on the falling tide, with 10 species in total......large numbers of Black- and a few Bar-tailed Godwits, 3 Greenshank with several hundred Redshank, 3 Knot, 10+ smart Grey Plover one in full summer plumage, Lapwing, Oystercatchers, Dunlin and Curlew. An adult winter Med Gull was with the roosting Gull flock at Langstone, and 3 late Sandwich terns were at Hayling. A total of 13 Little Egrets were feeding on the mudflats. I was surprised how many Brent Geese had already returned for the winter - well over a hundred. The squally very windy weather led to some dramatic cloudscapes over the estuary. Photos JM.
