Frozen Shorncote
10 Feb - Shorncote largely frozen, but waterfowl were crowded in to the patch of unfrozen water - Gadwall (3,4), Teal (5,6), Wigeon, Tufted Duck, a Little Grebe (7), 4 Snipe, and a Water Rail in the open that ran across the path. A few Pied Wagtails (8) and Reed Buntings were still in the reedbed, and a Little Egret was in an unfrozen ditch. Fieldfares and Redwings were moving around in roving flocks. No sign of the hoped-for Bittern in the reedbeds. Nearby, at least 4 Smew (1 drake) still at pits 29/30. Photos JM.
